Stories. Everyone has them. They serve to inspire us, to connect us to one another and if we so choose, to define us. Storytelling is undoubtedly one of the most powerful tools a person can have in his or her arsenal. Not only can a beautifully weaved story transport the audience to another time or place, it can also allow us to relate to and learn from one another.
Stories can be conveyed through many mediums such as spoken word, writing, song, and art, and are a powerful way to inspire change. A haunting tune, a moving poem, or a stunning painting can elicit emotions, empathy, and ideas.
This is why the +Acumen network has decided to use photography as a means of storytelling. If you’ve had the opportunity to attend one of the many +Acumen Dignity Photo Auctions held around the world, you can attest to the power of witnessing beautiful photographic stories from around the world. Images that depict the photographer’s interpretation of dignity, whether it be stories of strength, pride, beauty, unity, or happiness, have been showcased all over the world and have provided event-goers with not only beautiful pieces of art, but also meaningful stories, to proudly display and share with their friends.
These stories of dignity have been a powerful way to raise funds for Acumen and +Acumen network initiatives. This year, we’re looking to the Acumen community and beyond to share their photographic stories of dignity with us. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or a budding amateur, the Picture Dignity Contest, our first-ever worldwide +Acumen network initiative, let’s you show us what dignity looks like in your world.
Why is this so exciting? With a panel of judges including the ever-talented Ryan Lobo, the winning photos will receive international exposure by being featured in +Acumen Dignity Photo Auctions across the globe! And just to make things a little sweeter, photos submitted will also have the opportunity to win amazing prizes including valuable subscriptions from our sponsor 500px.com and a grand prize of $500.
Storytelling, whether it is through photography or another means, allows us to connect with one another even if we come from different worlds and walks of life. It’s an ability to share a vision and inspire change. Picture Dignity is waiting for your story.
Visit http://picturedignity.strutta.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/PictureDignity for all the info you need. Submissions will be accepted until September 1st and winners will be announced on October 1st.
