Hub Ottawa’s Impact Academy Wraps Up 2nd Cohort of Social Entrepreneurs!
Second cohort of Impact Academy to graduate over an evening session called ‘Impact Café: Remixed’
Impact Academy is an action-oriented learning program that builds core skills and competencies for social entrepreneurs so they can build their world-changing social enterprises better and faster. This unique program is jointly curated by HUB Ottawa and the Centre for Innovative Social Enterprise Development (CISED) with lead support from Business Development Bank of Canada.
The program operates 12-week cohort cycles at HUB Ottawa, during which 25 participants per cohort receive practitioner-led workshops, cutting edge tools, peer reviews, best-in-class coaching, connections to a purpose-driven community ideal for social enterprises and social innovators.
The Fall 2013 session, which began in October, consisted of 25 social innovators working in fields such as social housing, sustainability, justice, community arts and environmental education. One of the Fall cohort participants, Gonzalo Duarte runs social enterprise Companeros. The organization is dedicated to organizing respectful volunteer service and cross-cultural learning programs resulting in the development of better communities in Nicaragua. He recalled, “Classes were chock-full of a good balance of theory and practice on topics immediately pertinent to both new and experienced social entrepreneurs. The 5 tightly packaged units – Clarify, Navigate, Fund, Boost, and Amplify – were led by a combination of experienced in-house and guest facilitators who challenged 25 diverse participants to build their knowledge and skills in helpful ways.”
On December 11th, 2013 the second cohort of Impact Academy will graduate over an evening session called ‘Impact Café: Remixed’ during which participants showcase their projects and pitch their ideas to a friendly audience of community leaders, impact investors, and social entrepreneurs.
