In 2008, Carissa returned from a Corporate Social Responsibility engagement trip to Zambia with one very clear understanding: the inequalities in our world are too great to be ignored. At the time, she was working for Aeroplan Canada. Since then, Carissa has focused her professional and personal life on building opportunities to be part of the process that closes these gaps.
Following that experience Carissa was a Professional Fellow with Engineers Without Borders in Ghana where she worked in entrepreneurship, agriculture, and education. She then complimented her B.Sc (McGill University) with an MBA (University of British Columbia) and was able to participate in the exciting world of impact investing through her internship at Acumen’s New York City office.
Carissa was drawn to her current employer, UK-based pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, because of their commitment to global health and their innovative, market-based strategies to reach the world’s poorest communities.
Carissa grew up in the lively city of Montreal and currently enjoys the beauty of Vancouver. Armed with a journal, lots of energy and a true passion for social change, she is always looking forward to the next adventure.
