Brett Hudson Matthews is a founding partner of Mathwood Consulting Company and executive director of My Oral Village. Brett is working to re-invent village finance, to achieve true financial inclusion among the poorest billion rural citizens of our planet.
Before founding Mathwood in 2002, Brett worked for 8 years at Metro (now Alterna) Credit Union in Toronto, and served on the credit committee of the Calmeadow Metro Fund, a microcredit fund operating in Toronto.
In 2012, Brett launched My Oral Village, a not-for-profit that seeks to bridge the gaping oral-literate divide that blocks financial inclusion, especially in rural areas where seasonal cash flows are the norm. He also writes and edits a blog for village finance practitioners (http://www.villagefinance.net). Brett was Gates Advisor at MicroSave India during 2008-09, where he advised over a dozen MFIs in 12 Indian states. With the Canadian Co-operative Association, Brett led the development of the Cambodian Community Finance Network (CCFiN) from 2003-07.
Brett earned his MBA (finance) from the Schulich School of Business at York University and his MA (development studies) at the University of Toronto.
