Nora is the founder, senior advisor and Former CEO of the Community Forward Fund, an organization which makes loans or arranges financing for Canadian non-profits and charities. Her vast experience in community financing has helped her assist organizations develop successful strategy development, partnering and financial proposals.
Previously, she served as a Vice-President and CEO with the credit union and cooperative system and in the private sector, through which she acquired knowledge and experience with different forms of financing, investment and capital. Most recently, as President and CEO of the Canadian Lung Association, she led the development of a national strategy and action plan on Lung Health, which received millions of dollars of investment from government, private sector and nonprofit sources.
Ms. Sobolov has developed programs to assist organizations with successful strategy development, partnering, joint ventures, mergers and both venture and long-term financing proposals. She has served as a Board member and advisor for several credit unions, cooperatives, technology companies, charities and nonprofits. She has also authored several papers on social finance.
Nora holds a Masters of Law from Osgoode Hall, York University (specializing in negotiation and alternative dispute resolution), a Masters of Social Work (specializing in non-profit management and policy) from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Urban Planning from the University of Toronto.
