Eugene Ellmen is National Director for Oikocredit Canada, the Canadian arm of Oikocredit, one of the largest private funders of microfinance in the world.
Prior to joining Oikocredit in January 2013, Eugene was the Executive Director of the Social Investment Organization, and had an extensive career in research and public education on socially responsible investment.
Eugene’s career has touched on many facets of finance, government, journalism, communications and public affairs. In the 1980s, he was a business writer with Canadian Press, where he covered the early development of the socially responsible investment industry.
Subsequent to his stint at CP, he worked in communications and public affairs with Credit Union Central of Ontario, the Ontario government and a number of private clients. He joined SIO as Executive Director in 1999.
Eugene is the author of the critically acclaimed Canadian Ethical Money Guide, updated through five editions between 1988 and 1998.
