Senior Communications Manager: Global Social Enterprise Program, British Council
I serve as the East Asia communications manager for a programme that supports social enterprises which employ business approaches to address social and environmental challenges and make a positive impact in their communities.
The programme provides social entrepreneurs with skills training, mentoring and access to UK expertise. It forms partnerships with corporations, philanthropic foundations and social investors that provide mentoring and funding to help programme participants build successful social enterprises that generate employment and help foster a more sustainable, inclusive and prosperous future.
The programme also organises policy dialogues and public activities which promote social enterprise and social investment and corporate social responsibility.
Our activity leverages the experience of the UK which is considered a global leader in this field and is home to some 68,000 social enterprises that provide over one million jobs and in 2011 contributed GBP 24 billion to the economy. The country launched the world's first social investment bank and has pioneered the use of financial instruments called social impact bonds to channel capital to social enterprises.
Since 2009, we have trained over 2,500 social entrepreneurs in China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam.
