Ellen Martin

Ellen has a love for all things social impact, whether it’s developing a new approach to online education, understanding the science of competency-based learning, creating new tools and resources, or helping build a social finance community.

Before SoJo, Ellen worked on the Education and Engagement team at the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing, where she was responsible for the development of the Centre’s online knowledge hub and learning modules, and led the Centre’s learning events. In addition she has worked at several web-based nonprofit organizations, serving as the Interim Managing Editor of SocialFinance.ca and Educational Resource Developer at TakingITGlobal for Educators. She has also traveled, completing an educational exchange in Australia and doing a field placement at a social enterprise in India.

Throughout these experiences she recognized a recurring pattern in the struggles that early-stage social entrepreneurs experienced in trying to shape their ideas and the challenge of finding the right resources to bridge the gap from idea to action. That’s what drew her to the idea of SoJo – to help empower people with the support they need to pursue their ideas.

Ellen has a BSocSc in International Development and Globalization from the University of Ottawa.
