Mariam Dao Gabala

Mariam Dao Gabala has spent the last 20 years as the Representative for Oikocredit in West Africa helping to build microfinance institutions, social purpose businesses and co-operatives, fostering a new investment-based approach to international development. Through her leadership, Oikocredit has invested more than 60 million Euros in West African countries like Ghana, Mali, Togo, Benin, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire. In 2011 Mariam Dao Gabala was awarded the prize for International Solidarity by the French newspaper Le Monde. In addition to the International Solidarity Prize, Mariam has received multiple honours for her community leadership and broad non-profit involvement.
Prior to joining Oikocredit, Mariam worked as finance manager of CIGE and as an international consultant with the African Development Bank, the ILO and the World Bank. She is a graduate of the national business School ESCA in Ivory Coast and holds post-graduate degrees in finance from acclaimed institutions in Europe and Canada. A Cote d’Ivoire national, she is particularly committed to promoting the financial inclusion of women and developing women leadership at all levels of African society. She is also a devoted wife and proud mother of five.
