Making Canada Proud

Inner City Development Inc.  is a Winnipeg based social enterprise that had a feature story on the National.  Great coverage of how a for-profit business can blend a social and financial return.  View the video here "Making Canada Proud".

ICR has completed over 130 projects since its start-up in 2002. Most have been in the residential sector mainly in non-profit housing. One of the residential projects in the private sector won the grande prize in the 2005 kitchen competition sponsored by Ciao Magazine and Assiniboine Credit Union. In the commercial sector completed projects include Urban Circle Training Centre and Murdo Scribe Centre on Selkirk Ave., the third floor of the Mountain Equipment Co-op building on Portage Ave., Assiniboine Credit Union new Rivergrove branch on north Main St. and SEED Winnipeg new offices at 80 Salter.

Community Ownership Solutions   COS is a unique not-for-profit, business-focused, development corporation providing quality jobs for low-income Manitobans. COS is a founding member of Inner City Renovations.  This is a model that is worth checking out.  While you are at it take a look at this video  "Rebuilding Winnipeg's North End".

As a former Winnipegger, I am always excited to learn about the innovative developments that arise from this vibrant city.
