SiG @ MaRS Is Hiring Two Paid Summer Interns


SiG @ MaRS is hiring two paid summer interns. This is an excellent opportunity for those of you who follow SocialFinance.ca and would like to get involved in all things social innovation and social finance. Descriptions of the two positions are pasted below and attached as PDFs. 

Both internships will span up to 16 weeks from May to August 2011. The successful candidates will receive a stipend equal to $15 / hour on a full-time basis for the duration of the internship, paid bi-weekly subject to applicable payroll taxes.

Social Finance Summer Intern

Social Innovation Generation @ MaRS is looking for a qualified individual to assist with various social finance programs from May to August 31, 2011. The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience and/or ability in business development, a strong understanding of finance, and an interest in the fields of impact investing and public policy.
 
The Social Finance Summer Intern will work full-time and regular hours out of the MaRS Discovery District building in Toronto, ON. The successful candidate will work across multiple programs including our research and public policy, market and product development, and education and engagement initiatives. Specifically, the intern will engage in business development and research activities that will support SocialFinance.ca, the Social Venture Exchange (SVX), and follow-up to the Task Force on Social Finance final report, Mobilizing Private Capital for Public Good.

Responsibilities

  • Support business development for SocialFinance.ca through market research, prospecting, and the preparation of pitch materials;
  • Advance the listings work of the Social Venture Exchange through blended value due diligence and prospecting new ventures;
  • Support the development of a new impact investing fund(s) or products by assisting with business development, coordinating prospect meetings, and conducting market research;
  • Provide logistical support to development activities related to the Social Impact Bond Incubator (SIBI) including meeting coordination and research support;
  • Pursue self-directed projects as so inspired that result in outstanding written, visual, or audio content; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Demonstrated experience and/or ability in business development;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Strong understanding of finance;
  • A personal and professional interest in the fields of social finance and public policy;
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated;
  • An openness to evolving responsibilities;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently and in teams; and
  • Proficiency at multitasking and prioritizing time and workload.

Social Innovation Summer Intern

The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective organizational skills, experience and/or ability in event planning, and an interest in the fields of social entrepreneurship and social innovation.

The SiG Intern will work full-time and regular hours out of the MaRS Discovery District building in Toronto, ON. The successful candidate will work across multiple programs including writing and communications, client support, and education and engagement initiatives. Specifically, the intern will provide organizational support, research and writing, assistance with event planning, as well as other duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director, Social Entrepreneurship;
  • Manage salesforce.com to support client work and reporting to funders;
  • Take and transcribe meeting notes;
  • Assistance with event planning;
  • Support new and ongoing projects and initiatives of SiG@MaRS;
  • Produce writing, blogging and other content to communicate the work of SiG@MaRS; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
