The Business of (Better) Business

Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (ET)

1389 Dundas Street West

Registration fee: $10

At this historic juncture, where the value of capitalism is being called into question, we want to consider how businesses can be in the (better) business of creating shared value.

Hypenotic and Toronto's B Lab hub (at the MaRS Centre for Impact Investing) are co-hosting a dynamic and collaborative brainstorm session where we're inviting leaders and thinkers to help consider how a new kind of business can emerge out of this conversation. In the session, we'll collectively address the following questions:

  • Can business be a force to address pressing social and environmental problems?
  • What would it take to make traditional capitalism obsolete?
  • What would this new economic model look like?

The session will be led by a number of facilitators including Eric Ryan, one of the founders of Method, a $100 million dollar company that makes really nice smelling soap that's non-toxic and good for the planet. He's in town for a short visit and has agreed to be part of our gathering.

The evening will also include a short presentation by B Lab, of which Method is a Founding Partner, to highlight how the B Corp certification is helping define and strengthen social purpose enterprises.
