Video: Sir Ronald Cohen on the Canadian Task Force on Social Finance
It’s the beginning of a long weekend, so I’ll be quick:
Celebrating 100 years of global innovation, the Rockefeller Foundation announced its second annual awards for Innovation on June 26th. One of four recipients was Sir Ronald Cohen - and, frankly, I can’t say that I’m all that surprised. Innovation started early with Cohen, who founded one of Britain’s first venture capital firms in 1972 (Apax Partners), which seeded several pioneering companies: from AOL and Virgin Radio, to the firm that cloned Dolly the Sheep.
However, it wasn’t until the turn of the millennium that he made a name for himself in social finance. Among other initiatives, Cohen lead the UK Social Investment Task Force, Social Finance UK, and Bridges Venture Capital. He sits on the Board for Social Finance US, and chairs Big Society Capital (check out his recent article in Stanford Social Innovation Review on the progress of BSC so far).
