Job: Analyst, Responsible Investing - CPPIB


With assets under management projected to grow to $250 billion by 2016, CPP Investment Board is one of the largest and fastest growing institutional investors in the world. Headquartered in Toronto, with offices in London and Hong Kong, the CPP Investment Board is governed and managed independently of the Canada Pension Plan by experienced and highly skilled investment professionals. Their job is to prudently invest CPP assets to help pay future pensions.

The Analyst will contribute to the Responsible Investing team through company research, portfolio analysis, direct and collaborative engagement initiatives, and monitoring of emerging trends. This person will be experienced in the field of Responsible Investing, or related area, and bring enthusiasm and knowledge of corporate sustainability practices to the position.

Role Specific Accountabilities:

  • Research and analyze company specific environmental and social issues to support engagement and investment decision making processes
  • Actively participate in the implementation of CPP Investment Board's corporate engagement activities (proxy voting, working through coalitions, and direct engagement with public companies) and Policy on Responsible Investing
  • Collect and analyze data for review of public equity portfolio to identify environmental and social risks and engagement opportunities
  • Undertake core corporate governance research for public companies
  • Contribute to preparation of research documents, presentations and briefing notes
  • Contribute to the production of summary reports of activities and results
  • Monitor and analyze responsible investing trends and issues

If you possess the following, we'd like to hear from you:

  • 0 - 2 years experience in responsible investing or related area
  • University degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. business, finance, economics)
  • Basic knowledge of portfolio management and investment concepts - completion of CFA Level 1 an asset
  • Basic knowledge of current environmental and social issues for public companies
  • Well-developed research and analytical skills
  • Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Solid, demonstrated communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated good judgment, professionalism and integrity
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a high performing culture, under pressure and with time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to organize and maintain detailed, accurate documents
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable
  • Conduct consistent with our Guiding Principles of Integrity, Partnership and High Performance
