SocialFinance.ca + Social Capital Markets 2010

I'm pleased to announce that SocialFinance.ca will be helping to coordinate the social media coverage of the Social Capital Markets 2010 conference in San Francisco on October 4th, 5th, and 6th.

For those of us north of the U.S. / Canada border, SoCap represents an annual opportunity to check in with our dynamic neighbours to the south as well as many of the movers and shakers in social finance internationally.

As the Social Capital Markets 2010 website points out, the work we are collectively undertaking amounts to nothing less than "a new form of capitalism ... that recognizes both the power and efficiency of market systems and the ability to direct them toward social and environmental issues leading to a more balanced set of 'returns'."

These are bold terms to use when describing the significance of social finance, but terms that we shouldn’t shy away from (even in Canada). At SoCap, it’s the use of bold language combined with the co-creation of unreasonable-sized visions that makes the experience so unique. And the group of co-creators is pretty inspiring. The speaker list alone is pretty much a who’s who of our field internationally.

Over the next two months, the SocialFinance.ca team will be helping to develop and implement a social media outreach strategy that increases awareness and provides real-time coverage for those following from afar. Among other things, we see this work as an excellent opportunity to put Canadian social finance on the map.

If you would like to participate in the development and implementation of the social media outreach strategy for SoCap10, please request an invitation to the Social Media @ Social Capital Markets 2010 Google group.

To register for Social Capital Markets 2010, use the discount code SOFINANCECA for a 30% discount through August 31st, and a 20% thereafter through September 30th.

Note to Canadians planning to attend SoCap10: SocialFinance.ca, in collaboration with Causeway, will be organizing a networking and learning opportunity for Canadian attendees of SoCap10 on the evening of October 3rd and morning of October 4th. Send an email to canadaday@socialfinance.ca if you would like more information.
