Your Ideas for the OPEN Guide to Social Finance

Thank you! We have had a great response from organizations and individuals interested in providing content to the Guide to Social Finance. This is a dynamic process and we invite you to shape the guide’s development as we go along.

Today we are posting the topic headings on MindMeister. You can view this map and click the topic headings to see content suggestions, and links to video interviews and stories. Keep in mind that we are mapping out ideas first before we refine the focus and develop the corresponding content.

The OPEN Guide to Social Finance is for the founders and key staff of enterprising nonprofits and social purpose businesses who want to:

  • Understand what social finance is;
  • Learn how capital investment is used;
  • Discover practical examples of social finance at work, and;
  • Learn what is needed for a thriving social finance marketplace.

The structure of the Guide includes topic headings with concise content, illustrations, and digital video stories from across Ontario. It is intended to be a non-linear design, making content accessible to an on-line audience. Much of the Guide will be translated into French. We are also seeking out original French-language content.

We have looked at the MaRS Entrepreneurs Toolkit and love the style and format. Tell us what you think and what you would do differently. We especially love the Social Venture section from SiG@MaRS.

Our next step is to plan the digital video stories component. We want to showcase social enterprises in Ontario that have used social finance to operate and expand their initiatives. If you would like to be a storyteller and/or know of a social enterprise that has a replicable and innovative financing arrangement, please get in touch with us at guide@socialfinance.ca.

The next update will be in mid-September. In the meantime, please use the comment section below to provide feedback on the MindMeister topic headings. Thanks again for your interest in co-creating the OPEN Guide to Social Finance.
