Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI)

Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI)        
CDFIs are sustainable, independent organisations which provide financial services with two main aims: to generate social, and financial returns. They provide loans or investments along with business support to individuals and organisations whose purpose is to create wealth in disadvantaged communities or under-served markets.

Community Development Financial Institution (CDFIs)  
 A term used for community-based financial intermediaries with a principal mission to service low-income populations. CDFIs are certified by the CDFI Fund, a US Department of Treasury programme. Some CDFIs are for-profit, regulated community banks and credit unions, while others are non-regulated, non-profit loan funds. Community development venture capital funds also qualify as CDFIs.

Community Development Financial Institution
Financial institutions whose primary aim is to enable development of a low-income community through providing it, and/or organisations within it, with credit, investment, banking and development services. CDFIs can be chartered banks, credit unions or non-profit-seeking organisations.

Community Development Finance Association (cdfa)
www.cdfa.org.uk Community Interest Tax Relief (CITR) The CITR is a tax relief scheme introduced as a result of the recommendations of the Social Investment Task Force and aims to encourage investment in Community Development Finance Institutions (CDFIs) by providing tax relief at a rate of 5% per year on investments or loans made to accredited CDFIs.
