Causeway Social Finance Forum 2008 Proceedings
Strandberg C.(2008),Causeway Social Finance Forum Proceedings, Toronto.
This paper documents some of the learning and discussion that took place at Canada's first national Social Finance Forum. The forum brought a panel of international experts in social finance together to share ideas and practices that have been successful in other regions so that these ideas could potentially be replicated in Canada. Examples from abroad include: Bridge Ventures, a fund that aims to achieve acceptable financial returns while generating substantial social return as well; and Charity Bank, an organization that raises equity by having depositors open accounts for five years with a relatively high return. Additionally, some Canadian examples of innovation in social finance were highlighted, such as the Vancity Credit Union and the Canadian Disability Savings Plan.
